A lot of places in Belo Horizonte (and I expect the rest of Brazil as well) are a buffet where you pay per kilo. These “Kilo-Places” are a good way to get a cheap lunch or dinner and to try out many different local dishes at the same time. For example I had lots of bird eggs (which are very common and cheap here, compared to Austria) or chicken hearts, nothing I would order a’la carte.
Another specialty are Pastels, which is dough filled with cheese or bananas, deep fried. Just delicious and a great snack!
Overall I have to say that the food is very very good and I love to try out the various dishes. Although I might put on a few kilos too….
