Two days after the Capoeira lessons we had Samba lessons with Getulio. He and his girlfriend tried to teach us the basics of Samba - which are basic steps and movements, but more than that expression, attitude and a way of opening the heart. And moving the hips.
That’s exactly where I noticed my limits… Doing Capoeira – not such a big deal, I might get that with some training. Learning the samba steps and movements – harder, but I might also get there after a lot of training. Expressing myself on the dance floor like those guys at Gamboa (the Samba place we went to right after class to practice) – woah, that is going to take some time.
But I think it might be worth it, because with the knowledge of dancing Samba like Getulio I could rule the world! When the guys there start moving, they move differently, they move the Brazilian way. It’s like comparing soccer in Austria with the one from Brazil. Just way different. Brazilian guys use their hips (most unknown joint in the body!), arms, have expression in their face… you can feel the energy and fun… pure joy!
Thanks to #ibmcsc brazil for the fun Samba night!
